Haier air conditioner warranty, what it covers and how to claim
The Haier air conditioner warranty gives Australian owners solid protection, but only when a few conditions are met. This guide walks through the cover periods, what is included, what you need to keep and how a claim usually works.
What does the Haier air conditioner warranty cover?
Haier backs its air conditioners with a manufacturer warranty against defects caused by faulty workmanship or materials. In simple terms, the warranty covers the product failing because of how it was made. It does not cover problems caused by outside factors, which we cover in a separate guide.
According to Haier Australia warranty terms, Haier will repair or replace a defective product at no charge during normal working hours. The choice between repair and replacement sits with Haier. Replacement parts or products are then covered for the rest of the original warranty period.
This manufacturer warranty sits on top of your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. Those rights cannot be excluded, and the warranty does not reduce them. We explain that relationship further down the page.
How long does the cover last?
The cover period depends on the size and type of the system. Haier Australia lists these periods, counted from the date of purchase.
- Systems with less than 25 kW cooling capacity receive five years.
- Systems with 25 kW or more cooling capacity receive two years.
- Chiller products receive one year.
- Products at sites involved in mining, including accommodation for miners, receive eighteen months.
Almost every home split system, multi split and ducted system falls well under 25 kW. As a result, most household owners have five years of manufacturer cover. Still, check the size of your own system in your paperwork.
Which Haier products does this warranty apply to?
The air conditioner warranty covers Haier air conditioning products bought and used in Australia or New Zealand. That includes wall split, multi split and ducted systems. Haier publishes the air conditioner terms separately from the warranty for its other appliances.
That separation matters. Haier general appliance warranty information notes that it excludes air conditioning products. So, always read the air conditioner terms rather than a fridge or washing machine document.
If you bought the unit overseas or moved it here from another country, the Australian cover may not apply. Check with Haier before relying on it.
What conditions must you meet?
A warranty only works smoothly when you can show you met its conditions. Haier lists several requirements for a valid claim. None of them are difficult, but they are easy to forget years after installation.
Make the claim within the warranty period
Claims must be lodged while the cover is still active. Because the period counts from the purchase date, note that date somewhere safe. Waiting until a fault becomes severe can push a claim past the deadline.
Keep proof of purchase
Haier asks for an original, readable and unmodified proof of purchase. It needs to show the supplier name and address, the date and place of purchase and the product name or serial numbers. A simple bank statement may not include all of that, so keep the invoice itself.
Keep service and maintenance records
Haier also asks for records of all service and maintenance. That means every service invoice and any notes from technicians. Our guide on how often to service a Haier air conditioner explains what regular care looks like.
Make the unit accessible
The technician needs safe access to inspect the system. Haier terms exclude the cost of reaching units in restricted, high or unsafe places. They also exclude removing barriers, walls, roofs or fences to reach the product.
Install it properly
Installation should be done by a qualified person, ideally a registered Haier installer, and must follow local electrical and plumbing rules. Haier notes that non compliant or incorrect installations may void the warranty. Keep your installer details and compliance certificate with your invoice.
What costs are not included?
Even a valid claim can involve some costs. Knowing them in advance avoids surprises. Haier terms list these items.
- Any costs you incur in making the claim.
- Technician travel when the product sits outside a capital city metropolitan area or more than 35 km from a Haier branch or service representative.
- Costs to gain safe access to units in restricted, high or unsafe locations.
- Consumables such as filters, batteries, refrigerant gas and belt drives.
- Paid maintenance visits, which are not covered by the warranty.
Regional owners should pay special attention to the travel rule. If you live outside a capital city metropolitan area, ask about travel charges when you lodge the claim.
What should you check before making a claim?
Haier asks owners to work through some basic checks before claiming. Many apparent faults turn out to be simple settings or maintenance issues. These checks are also good practice before booking any repair.
- Confirm the controls are set correctly, including mode and temperature.
- Check that the filters are clean.
- Make sure nothing blocks airflow around the indoor unit.
- Check that the outdoor coil is clear of leaves and debris.
- Make sure the drain is not blocked.
- Check that the louvres point in a sensible direction.
- Replace the remote control batteries if the remote seems weak.
If the system still does not work properly after these checks, it is time to claim. Write down any error code and what you have already tried. Our Haier error codes list helps you describe the fault clearly.
How do you make a Haier warranty claim?
Haier offers more than one path for a claim. Choose the one that suits your situation.
Contact your installer or retailer
Haier suggests contacting the original installer or retailer. They may check the installation before arranging a warranty service. This route makes particular sense for newer systems.
Lodge a claim online
Haier Australia accepts warranty claims through its website at haier.com.au. Have your model numbers, serial numbers, purchase details and a description of the fault ready before you start.
Contact Haier customer care
Haier also provides customer care contact options on its website, including email. Include the fault description and the model and serial numbers in your message. Our model number guide shows where those numbers sit.
What happens next?
Haier or its service agent arranges an inspection. The technician confirms the fault and checks whether it falls under the warranty. If it does, Haier repairs or replaces the product at its discretion.
How does the Australian Consumer Law fit in?
Haier warranty terms state that its goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For a major failure, you may be entitled to a replacement or refund. You may also be entitled to compensation for other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.
If the goods fail to be of acceptable quality but the failure is not major, you may be entitled to have them repaired or replaced. These rights exist in addition to the manufacturer warranty. In other words, the warranty gives extra protection rather than replacing your legal rights.
This guide is general information only, not legal advice. For questions about your consumer rights, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and your state consumer affairs agency publish detailed guidance.
Does the warranty transfer if you sell your home?
Many split systems stay with the house when it sells. Haier terms count the warranty period from the date of purchase, so the clock keeps running regardless of ownership. Whether a new owner can claim depends on the paperwork they receive.
If you are selling, leave the invoice, installation paperwork and service records for the buyer. Those documents give them the best chance of using any remaining cover. Likewise, if you are buying, ask the seller for them during the sale.
A system without paperwork is much harder to support. Even a photo of the original invoice is better than nothing. So, gather these documents before settlement day.
Does the warranty cover a system that was never installed properly?
Haier ties its cover closely to correct installation. The terms ask for a qualified installer and compliance with local codes and the installation instructions. Where an installation is non compliant or incorrect, the warranty may be void.
That does not leave you stuck with a poor job. The installer is generally responsible for workmanship faults in their own work. Contact them first if a fault appears soon after installation, and keep a written record of every conversation.
Signs of installation trouble include leaking drain lines, refrigerant leaks at the joints and repeated communication faults. Our guide to the Haier E7 error explains how wiring problems at installation can trigger that code.
How long does a warranty repair usually take?
Haier does not publish a fixed repair timeframe in its air conditioner warranty terms. Timing depends on the fault, parts availability and the service agent schedule in your area. Busy summer periods can also add delay.
You can help the process move quickly. Lodge the claim as soon as you notice the fault, rather than waiting for it to get worse. Provide clear photos, the model and serial numbers and any error codes from the start.
Meanwhile, plan for comfort while you wait. Fans, blinds and closed doors help a lot in summer. In winter, warm bedding and heating only the rooms you use make the wait easier.
What tends to fall outside the cover?
The warranty focuses on manufacturing defects. Problems caused by outside factors usually fall outside it. Common examples include storm damage, pest damage, corrosion from salt air, poor installation and lack of maintenance.
These exclusions deserve their own discussion. Our guide on what voids a Haier air conditioner warranty explains each one and how to protect your cover.
How can you protect your warranty from day one?
A few habits keep your warranty in good shape for its full term. Most take only minutes.
- Store the invoice, installation paperwork and compliance certificate together.
- Record the installer name, contact details and licence number.
- Photograph the indoor and outdoor rating labels while they are clear.
- Clean the filters as your owner manual describes.
- Book professional servicing and keep every invoice.
- Use only genuine or approved parts for any repair.
Haier terms also ask owners to clean filters and evaporators and run the system for a trial period several weeks before each season. That trial run reveals problems early, while there is still time to fix them before the heat or cold arrives.
What if your system is out of warranty?
Once the manufacturer period ends, repairs become a cost you carry. Even so, a well maintained Haier system can keep running for many years. A careful diagnosis helps you decide whether a repair is worthwhile.
Consumer law rights may still apply for a reasonable time, depending on the product and the failure. Meanwhile, a technician can explain the fault, the likely repair and whether it makes sense for the age of the system. Our guide on repair or replace decisions covers that choice.
What records make a claim easier?
Good records turn a stressful claim into a simple one. Besides the invoice, a few extra items can help a great deal. Start a folder on the day of installation and add to it over time.
- The compliance certificate or installation paperwork.
- Photos of the indoor and outdoor rating labels.
- Every service invoice, with notes on the work done.
- Photos or videos of the fault, including any error code.
- Notes on when the fault started and what you tried.
Photos and videos are especially helpful for faults that come and go. For example, a noise or code that appears only at certain times is hard to show on demand. A short video captures the evidence when it happens.
Similarly, written notes help the technician understand the pattern. Include the date, time, mode and weather whenever the fault appears.
Is an extended warranty worth considering?
Some retailers sell extended warranty plans, and Haier has run warranty promotions in the past. These products vary widely in what they include. Read the terms closely before paying for extra cover.
Compare any plan with the cover you already have under the manufacturer warranty and consumer law. In many cases, the five year manufacturer cover already protects the most likely early failures. Extra cover may add little unless it clearly extends beyond those protections.
What mistakes delay warranty claims?
Some claims stall for reasons that are easy to avoid. Firstly, owners sometimes lose the original invoice and cannot prove the purchase date. Secondly, missing service records can raise questions about maintenance.
Thirdly, unclear fault descriptions slow things down. A note that says not working tells the technician very little. Instead, describe the symptom, any error code and when it happens.
Finally, delays happen when access is difficult. Clear a path to both units and make sure pets are secured before the visit. These small steps help the technician start straight away.
Should you keep using a faulty system while waiting?
Usually, it is safer to switch off a system that shows a clear fault. Running it may hide useful clues or cause further damage. In particular, switch it off straight away if you notice a burning smell, water near electrical parts or loud grinding sounds. Then wait for the inspection before using it again.
Summing up the Haier air conditioner warranty
The Haier air conditioner warranty covers defects in workmanship and materials, with five years for most home systems under 25 kW. Larger systems, chillers and mining sites have shorter periods. Replacement parts carry the rest of the original period.
To claim successfully, keep your proof of purchase and service records, install the system properly and make it safely accessible. Run the basic checks first, then contact your installer, lodge online or reach Haier customer care. Above all, remember that the warranty adds to your consumer law rights rather than replacing them.
